It’s 30 years since the release of first ever commercially available CD – a reissue of Billy Joel’s 52nd Street, which went on sale on October 1 1982.
The first CD I ever bought was the single of You Am I’s Soldiers.
The first full album was Dire Straits’ On Every Street.
I stand by both purchases.
I dont’ remember my first CD, but my very first album on cassette was Icehouse – Man of Colours. I played it when on a family holiday at Busselton with sisters, cousins, parents & grandparents. My grandfather liked the title track ‘Man of Colours’. It was also that same holiday that my cousin introduced me to MAD Magazine, which I continued to collect for probably close to a decade after that. It was the one with the ever present Alfred E. Neuman as Michael Jackson from his ‘Bad’ album. Issue 75, I believe.
